Logo sizes: what to export for each place you use it
A logo that looks right on your homepage can turn into a smudge as a favicon or get its edges cut off as a profile picture. Each place has its own shape and size. This guide starts with a table you can keep open while you export, then explains each size and links to the official specification where one exists.

What size should a logo be?
There is no single size. Export three versions: a wide one for your website header, a square one for icons and profile pictures, and a simplified one-colour version for stamps and embroidery. Keep a vector file (SVG or PDF) as the master, because it scales to every size in this table without losing quality.
| Where | Shape | What to export |
|---|---|---|
| Website header | Wide | SVG, or a PNG at twice the size it is shown |
| Favicon | Square | Larger than 48 × 48 px (Google's minimum is 8 × 8 px) |
| Apple touch icon | Square | 180 × 180 px |
| Link preview image | 1.91:1 | At least 1200 × 630 px |
| Social profile picture | Square, shown as a circle | Check each platform's help centre |
| App Store icon | Square | 1024 × 1024 px |
| Any | SVG or PDF, or a PNG at 300 pixels per inch at the printed size | |
| Embroidery and stamps | Simplified version | Vector file; ask the supplier |
Sizes checked against the official sources linked below in October 2026. Platforms change their requirements, so check again before a big print run or an app submission.
To test your own file against these sizes, use our free logo size checker. It runs in your browser, so the file isn't uploaded.
If your logo is a detailed badge or mascot, the square version often needs to be simpler too. Our guide to logo types explains which designs shrink well and which don't.
Websites
What size should a logo be on a website?
There is no standard size: your website theme decides, and most show a header logo somewhere between the height of a line of text and a short banner. Upload an SVG if your website builder accepts it, because it stays sharp at any size. Otherwise export a PNG at twice the size it appears on screen, so it doesn't look blurry on phones and high-resolution laptops.
What size should a favicon be?
Google requires a square favicon of at least 8 × 8 pixels and recommends going larger than 48 × 48 pixels, so it looks sharp in browser tabs and next to your site in Google results. Use the symbol alone or the first letter of your name, because a wide logo becomes unreadable at that size.
Google accepts BMP, GIF, ICO, PNG, JPEG, PPM and TIFF files. Source: Google Search Central, favicon guidelines.
What size is an Apple touch icon?
180 × 180 pixels: that is the size Apple's example code uses for iPhones with Retina screens. iOS shows this icon when someone adds your website to their home screen. Fill the whole square with your design, because iOS rounds the corners for you. Source: Apple, Configuring Web Applications.
What size should a link preview image be?
At least 1200 × 630 pixels, as close to a 1.91:1 ratio as possible. That is Meta's recommendation for the image shown when a page from your site is shared on Facebook, and WhatsApp and LinkedIn read the same Open Graph tags. Images smaller than 200 × 200 pixels aren't used at all.
Put your logo in the middle with plenty of space around it, since some apps crop the edges. Source: Meta for Developers, images in link shares.
Apps
What size is an App Store icon?
1024 × 1024 pixels. If you publish an iPhone or iPad app, the App Store needs one square icon at that size, and the system scales it down for the home screen. Supply the full square without rounded corners, because the system applies its own corner mask, and check that it still reads at thumbnail size. Source: Apple Human Interface Guidelines, app icons.
Print and merchandise
What resolution does a logo need for printing?
Send the printer a vector file (SVG or PDF) whenever you can, because vector files are drawn from shapes rather than pixels and print cleanly at any size. If they ask for a PNG, the usual request is 300 pixels per inch at the printed size: a logo printed 3 inches wide needs a PNG at least 900 pixels wide.
A 10-inch sign needs 3,000 pixels. Ask your print shop what they want before you export, because large-format printers often work differently. Our post on print-ready logo PNGs goes into more detail.
How do I prepare a logo for embroidery, stamps or stickers?
Make a simplified version with fewer colours, thicker lines and bigger text, because thread, rubber stamps and small stickers can't reproduce fine lines, gradients or small lettering. Most suppliers also want a vector file so they can prepare it for their machines.
Our posts on T-shirt logos, embroidered hat logos, logo stickers and rubber stamp logos cover each one.
How do I get these sizes from AI Logo Generator?
AI Logo Generator lets you download your logo as PNG, SVG or PDF. SVG (an open standard from the W3C) and PDF are vector files, so they scale to every size in the table above without losing quality. Use them for print, merchandise and your website header, and export PNGs from them for anything else.
If you need a square version of a wide logo, you can upload the logo and ask for a redesign with the symbol above the name, or the symbol on its own.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best file format for a logo?
Keep a vector file, SVG or PDF, as your master copy. It scales to any size without losing quality, and it's what printers and sign makers ask for. Export PNG copies from it for places that don't accept vector files, such as some social media and email tools.
What is the difference between a PNG and an SVG logo?
A PNG is made of pixels, so it has a fixed size and turns blurry or jagged when you enlarge it. An SVG stores shapes and lines, so it stays sharp at any size and is usually a small file. Both can have a transparent background.
Can I make my logo bigger without losing quality?
Only if you start from a vector file, such as an SVG or PDF, which you can scale to any size. Enlarging a PNG or JPEG stretches its pixels, so edges go soft or jagged, and upscaling tools can only guess the missing detail. AI Logo Generator's SVG and PDF downloads are vector files, so start from those.
Does my logo need a transparent background?
For most uses, yes: a transparent background lets the logo sit on any colour or photo without a white box around it. PNG and SVG files can be transparent; JPEG files can't. AI Logo Generator lets you download your logo with a transparent background; keep a version on a solid background as well, for places that need one.
What is the difference between RGB and CMYK for a logo?
RGB describes colours made of light, for screens, and CMYK describes the four inks most commercial printers use. Some bright on-screen colours can't be printed exactly in CMYK, so they can look duller on paper. Ask your printer which one they need, and check a printed proof before a large order.

Social media
What size should a logo be for a social media profile picture?
Use a large square image and check the current size in each platform's help centre, because the numbers change and differ between platforms. A large file is safe, since every platform scales it down. Most platforms show profile pictures cropped to a circle, so keep everything important inside that circle.
The corners are cut off, so a wide logo either shrinks to nothing or loses its ends. Use the square version of your logo here.
